Romain C. Bertheau (b. 1983, France), also known under the names ゴマサン and ThreadedDreamsTM, is a composer, pianist, organist, and experimental musician whose work explores acoustic instruments and electronic sound through the no-input mixer. His practice combines contemporary composition and radical improvisation, with a focus on textures and sonic detail. His influences include Klaus Lang, Laurie Spiegel, Angelo Badalamenti, Arthur Russell, and Francis Bacon.
Bertheau is the founder of Organ Sequences, a Berlin-based series dedicated to experimental and contemporary organ music.
He is the winner of the Euro-region International Piano Competition (2001) and the Concorso Internazionale di Musica Antica “Maurizio Pratola” (2013).
Since 2014, he has conducted fieldwork and recordings of traditional music across Asia, notably in Myanmar, Georgia, and Nepal.
Since 2019, Romain C. Bertheau has been performing on 3 instruments: pipe organ, piano and no-input mixer, including guest lectures and masterclasses at universities. He has collaborated with Andre Vida, MarFermont, Rieko Okuda Jeffery, Cedrik Fermont, Rieko Okuda, Chris Pitsiokos, among others, and has engaged in interdisciplinary projects with filmmakers and installation artists such as Wei Lung, Vincent Moon, Su Dan, and Astali/Peirce.
